We answer in English and Spanish. Tell us your store's address and the product or rule, and attach a screenshot if you can.
Getting started
- Open StopShip from Apps in your Shopify admin. Home shows your status and a short checklist.
- Go to Rules and tap Create rule, or Start from a template on Growth and Pro.
- Use Select products or Select collections, or type tags. Then choose the states and paste any ZIP codes.
- Save. Test it by going to checkout with a restricted product and the state or ZIP that Home suggests.
- Optional, on Growth and Pro: from Home, Open theme editor adds the notice to your product page. Tap Save in the theme editor.
ZIP codes
- Paste ZIP codes separated by spaces, commas or new lines. ZIP+4 counts as its 5-digit ZIP.
- Ranges (
10001-10099) and 3-digit prefixes (900) cover many ZIPs and don't count toward the limit of 5,400 individual ZIPs across your rules. - On Pro, Import from file reads a CSV or TXT of up to 1 MB. It imports ZIPs, ZIP+4 and ranges. Prefixes aren't imported from files, because they look like other numbers.
- If a file has 4-digit values, StopShip warns you: spreadsheets often drop the leading zero (2134 instead of 02134). Fix them and import again.
Troubleshooting
- A buyer can check out and the rule doesn't block
- Check that the rule shows as Active in Rules, that the switch in Settings is on, and that the product really is in the rule's product, collection or tag. A rule marked “Paused by plan” isn't enforced: see Plans.
- I don't see the error while typing the address
- When Shopify suggests a correction to the address (“Did you mean…?”), checkout can hide the error while the buyer edits. It appears when they tap Pay now, and payment doesn't go through.
- The rule doesn't apply to local pickup
- That's on purpose: a pickup doesn't ship to the buyer's address. Local delivery does count, as does shipping.
- An order with a restricted product exists anyway
- Staff can create an order from a draft by choosing “Ignore and create order”, and other channels may skip checkout. On Growth and Pro, those orders get the tag “StopShip: review”. Filter by it in Orders.
- The blocked count looks low
- It's approximate: buyers' privacy settings can stop the count. Blocking itself isn't affected.
- The notice doesn't show on the product page
- It needs Growth or Pro, the block added in your theme editor, and an active rule for that product. It lists states, not ZIP codes.
Plans and billing
Plans shows your plan and what each one includes. Change plan opens Shopify's plan page; Shopify bills you on your invoice. If you downgrade, the rules that fit keep blocking, starting with your oldest, and the rest show as “Paused by plan” until you upgrade.
Uninstalling and your data
Uninstalling removes the check from your checkout. We keep your rules for a short time in case you reinstall, then delete everything when Shopify asks us to. The details are in the privacy policy.
Legal questions
StopShip enforces the rules you set and doesn't give legal advice. We can't tell you what you can sell or where: ask your legal advisor.
